Who Was Noani?

More then a Grand Parent

"Years ago Laura Pickett (my grandmother) became a grand parent for the first time. To Laura, she felt too young to be called Grandma. I believe she had heard the Italian word “Nonni” before but some how converted it to the spelling Noani. And that is what we called her until she died at the age of 94 years old. Noani is the inspiration for this program because often when I am asked who are some of my fitness heroes she is top of the list. Her attitude towards aging even with her nickname was that of not accepting the assumed limitations of aging. Noani was a force of nature that refused to accept getting old and in that was an amazing role model for aging well. Noani loved to dance, she was even one hell of a bowler and more than anything you couldn’t get her to stop moving. As a result she aged with all her independence intact. She never went to a nursing home and kept her wits as well. Her secret? She refused to stop."

FAQ

  • Is this a workout program?

We don't like to think of it that way. Sure you're going to be doing some exercises but we prefer to say that you are practicing/learning a skill to make life easier for you. You may feel a little stiff when you first start but the goal is not to make you sore or even out of breath.

  • Can anyone do the program?

Although the program is intended for older adults, anyone that feels they want to improve their mobility is welcome to participate. We intend this program to be a stepping stone into the world of activity. We are trying to reach those that are not currently active. We want to give them convenient first step to moving more.

  • Is it safe?

We recommend all participants receive a medical check up before participating. The activities however, are meant to be done at low intensity and slow paced. You should not feel out of breath or sore from the program.

  • What if I have a question or am unsure about my movement form?

You are always welcome to email [email protected] with any questions or you can even submit video of yourself doing the movement in question. We will get back to you with any feedback ASAP.
